Sawdust Festival Flyer

The Sawdust Festival seemed like a really artsy and fun festival, so I tried to use a lot of creativity in the advertisement that would speak to the people that were going to attend. This can be seen in the triangle-design header and footer (that I made myself!) and from some pictures of the festival from previous years that I found online. I also included a picture of Laguna Beach because that is where the festival takes place.

Some of the design principles that I used were alignment and repetition. I tried to align the text and pictures so that it flowed well across the page. I also repeated text color and font so that it was easy to read.

Humane Society Calendar

For this calendar for the Humane Society, I decided to keep things simple and readable. The grid is the classic design and easy to read with plenty of space for writing. I also wanted to put some really cute pictures of animals that I think people would respond well to. I chose the months March, April, and May because, at the time this calendar was created, they were the next three months coming up. I selected one month, April, to put on this website.

The design principles used were alignment and proximity. The text, grid, and images are all centered and designed to read easily from left to right. All of the items that relate to each other are grouped closely.

Hollywood Sandwich Shoppe Menu

For this menu I wanted to keep things simple but put a little bit of a “fancy-esque” twist to it. In order to do that I used a font for the names of the menu items that would easily stand out to readers and then a decorative, cursive font for the item descriptions to make the restaurant seem more upscale than just a sandwich shop. I also added an ornate corner option to supply a border for each page.

I kept with the client’s wishes with making it an easy to print menu by keeping the font black, except for in some places I added the provided purple color to make it match the logo. For the monthly special section I chose Rex Harrison who played Julius Caesar in the movie “Cleopatra” (also starring Elizabeth Taylor) and made his dish to be a Caesar salad. I thought that was kind of cute!

***I have only included the first page of the menu on this site.
